National Rail Museum

There are over 100 real size train models showing the different types of trains on different gauges and terrains. It is a must visit for kids as well as for train enthusiasts.

National Science Center

Want to get your child interested in science? Then The National Science Center is the place for it. This huge complex covers topics like Information Revolution, Human Biology, Pre-Historic Era, Ancient and Emerging Science and talks about water conservation and lives of eminent scientists also. Along with this there is a very interesting working science model and an amphitheater that has shows on astronomy. Red Fort

Every year on Independence day the kids watch this iconic monument on T.V. as the Prime Minister hoists the tricolor here. So why not show them this place in person. Children’s Park and India Gate

India Gate, the iconic monument, built as a memorial for the Indian soldiers who fought in the World War I is a great place for kids. Started by the Political Cartoonist K. Shankar Pillai, Shankar’s Doll Museum is another interesting place. There are dolls from every country and are very mesmerizing to look at. The museum is divided into two sections one houses dolls from European countries and the other exhibits dolls from Asian countries. There are about 150 dolls depicting the ethnicity of India via different costumes and way of living.

Qutub Minar

This is another landmark of Delhi. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is perfect for a days outing with kids. Construction of this 73 meter high tower was started by Qutab-Ud-Din Aibak in the year 1192. Even today it stands as a testament to the changes that took place in Delhi. The iconic tower is not only picturesque but there is so much history attached to it that it will be a great history lesson for the kids.

Rashtrapati Bhavan

Rashtrapati Bhavan or the Presidential Palace and office is undoubtedly the best built structure in Delhi. The majestic palace covers an area of 5 acres on a 330 acre estate. Rashtrapati Bhavan is now open for public and the reservations for which can be done online from their site only. The area for tourists is divided into 3 circuits. In the months of February and March the Mughal Gardens is opened to the public free of cost. On Saturdays and Sundays you can also attend the Change of Guards Ceremony that takes place in the morning and evening.

Delhi Zoo and Purana Qilla

Delhi Zoo is one of the best in the country. From predatory cats to Sloth bears to different species of birds, this zoo has it all. The zoo is well maintained and it not only houses the animals but also serves as a breeding ground for them. Food is not allowed inside but there is a cafeteria inside. There is even a tram inside that takes you to all the exhibits. It is a faster and easier way to cover the entire park. But if you want to see everything closer and at your speed then walking is a better option. The zoo is too crowded on public holidays so its better if you go here on a weekday. Purana Qila or Old Fort built by Sher Shah Suri is right next to the zoo. It’s very popular for its boating and the Light and Sound Show.

Nehru Planetarium

Situated in the premises of the Teen Murti Bhavan was initially the private residence of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. The planetarium conducts 4 shows daily. Two in English and Hindi each on different topics related to astronomy. It is very insightful and a good way to develop an interest of astronomy in kids. The museum is also very detailed and informative. The added attraction is the Nehru Residence and Museum where the kids get to know more about their beloved Chacha Nehru.
